Bio of Lynda Gaelyn Smith, OCA '87
Lynda Gaelyn Smith is an artist and writer, born in North Bay, Ontario in 1947. She has been showing in public and private galleries since 1987. Her work has been included in group shows including: The Prairie Gallery, Grand Prairie, Alberta; Etobicoke Civic Centre Gallery; The General Trust Offices, Etobicoke, Ontario and the John B Aird Gallery, Toronto,Ontario.
Ms. Smith’s work can be seen on the ceiling of the Mississauga Civic Centre Council Chamber – an 8000 square foot mural designed by artist Sharon McCann. In addition, her drawings, prints and paintings are in private and corporate collections including: Gene Kinoshita, past President of RCA; Lawrence Goad, Governing Council OCA; The Wyeth Drug Co. Ltd.; and the Crown Life corporate collection.
She has received several awards and honours, among them the Dorothy L. Stevens Scholarship for excellence in drawing and painting and the OCA 3rd year Book prize for her work in Liberal Arts. Her primary piece in the Glass Earth Series was purchased for the Government of Ontario Art Collection. Her work was also included in a calendar by Kelloggs honouring women artists in Canada.
Ms. Smith is an Honours graduate of the Ontario College of Art, 1987 and lives, works, and teaches in her home just west of Markdale, Ontario.
